Kenya: Plastic Free Week, Plogging and Tree planting

This activity is organised by the Swedish Institute Alumni Network Kenya (SIANK)

Welcome to join a series of activities dedicated to highlight plastic consumption, waste management and carbon dioxide storing.

The First event will involve a Plastic Free Week challenge running from 20 Sep to 24th Sep 2021.
The second, Plogging on 25th Sep a day to clean the public park and later have a meeting that will be closed with speeches by SIANK, the Embassy, and Environmental groups about the importance of keeping out environment clean.
The third, event will be tree planting which will be 2 weeks after the plastic free week and plogging as a follow up activity aimed at keeping our environment clean, the activity aims to plant 1500 trees.

08:00 Bikers and other participants convene at the Nairobi City County Office
09:00 Flagging off. Walking and jogging along designated streets while collecting waste
12:00 Reconvene at Nairobi City County for speeches and closing of morning session.
Afternoon hours
13:00-4:00 pm Music and Entertainment at the August Memorial Park/Jevanjee Gardens
Film screening on waste management with refreshments


Tree Planting Event (Kiambu County Land-Community Park/School)

Date: 20th Oct 2021 (Mashujaa Day)
Planting target: 1,000 seedlings

08:00 Participants convene at Nkoroi Mixed Secondary School, Kajiado County
08:15 Welcome note by the school administration and SIANK
09:00 Guided instructions on seedling handling by Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI)
09:30 Flagging off by the Local Administration walk to the planting site
12:30 Planting ends.

Panel discussion on importance of tree planting.
